EIU Plans Ireland Trip
Charleston, Ill. — The Department of Communication Studies will host a 25-day trip to Ireland from May 17, 2017 to June 12. “I am looking forward to this trip. I am so glad EIU is giving me a platform to accomplish my dreams of studying in a different country” Jenny O’Boyle, sophomore communications student said.
While in Ireland, undergraduate students will complete CMN 3970 and CMN 4000 listed as three credits each as part of the study abroad trip. The cost of the trip is $5,200, plus six credit hours of tuition and fees. More information is listed at http://www.eiu/studyabroad.com.
The Department of Communication Studies welcomes all EIU students that have interest in studying abroad in Ireland/Northern Ireland to attend an information session Nov. 2, 2016 from 1-2 p.m. in Coleman Hall, room 1721. A second information session is planned for November 10 from 1-2 p.m. These sessions will answer any questions/concerns for students.
During the excursion participants will meet veterans of paramilitary Northern Ireland Conflict and visit the Corrymeela Community Peace and Reconciliation Center. Activities will include exploring a working sheep farm, visit a master crystal cutter, visit Guinness Brewery and Trinity College and the Books of Kells, and spend three days on Aran Island.
The department of communication studies is the largest academic program in the collage of arts and humanities. It holds more than 400 undergraduate students and 33 active graduate students. The communications department offer a B.A in communication studies and a B.A. in public relations. With 23 full-time faculty members there is a ratio for a student-to-faculty of 17 to 1.
