A question about Donald Trump’s language during the presidential debates has been solved “big league.”
Linguists analyzed the phrase that prompted much curiosity because Americans couldn’t agree on whether Trump said “bigly” or “big league.”
Trump used this phrase multiple times during the debates and other interviews.
Professor of Linguistics Susan Lin transformed the audio into a visual wave form and determined that there is a definite “G” sound at the end of the phrase.
Other linguists agree that Trump did indeed say “big league”–with a “G”–during the debates.
Regardless, Merriam-Webster says the word “bigly” is a word. It’s an adverb of the word “big.”
