Many students do not take the advantage of all the opportunities given to them in college, one of those opportunities being study abroad. At Eastern Illinois University in the 2015-2016 school year 1 in 5 students enrolled have studied abroad.
This number shocks Casey Fitzwater, a sophomore studying sociology at EIU. She said, “I would have thought that a lot more students would want to study abroad. I’m planning on doing it and I can’t wait!”
Some students may not realize that it is affordable. There are many scholarships offered both through EIU and through the nation. To get more information about the scholarships offered all students have to do is go talk to the EIU study abroad office and the financial aid office.
Patrick Tobin graduated in 2015 from EIU and studied in Costa Rica during his junior year. He met his girlfriend there and they have been dating for 2 years.
Patrick said, “I tell everyone to do it. It was one of the greatest experiences of my life.”
As college students, this is the only time we are able to get the scholarships and student loans to be able to study abroad. Not only do students get the experience but they also get college credit.
